Digitisation of Persian Rare Books and Manuscripts Across India with Select Urdu and Arabic Materials
The eGangotri Project, an open-access-first digital endeavour, is dedicated to the scanning and digitisation of rare books and manuscripts in the Indian sub-continent and has published over 91,000 texts in the public domain to date, with an average of 2500 books released online per month.
Their vision is to see every text across the sub-continent available through open-access.
Their current scanning locations:
1. Srinagar
2. Jammu
3. Lucknow
4. Varanasi
5. New Delhi
6. Pondicherry
7. Haridwar
8. Kathmandu
9. Mobile Team: travelling across India.
Funded by The Barakat Trust, their current project "Digitisation of Persian Rare Books and Manuscripts Across India with Select Urdu and Arabic Materials" is to focus on Persian manuscripts. India holds the largest corpus of Indo-Persian manuscript heritage, yet much remains inaccessible due to geographical dispersion and limited digitisation.
