2023 - Building an Islamic Art Collection

The Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo has one of the world’s finest collections of its type. For these items to be of scholarly value, though, they must have clear provenance. The museum has a large body of archival documents that have never before been published, and these describe in detail how the museum acquired, collected, and transported its vast collection of art since its construction in 1903.

In this project, the first one specialised in tracing the roots of the museum’s collection, Dr Mohammed Abdel-Salam published a vast number of documents in English, French, and Arabic, to ensure a wide scholarly access to key information regarding this world-class collection.
