Hands On: Tate St Ives
Tate St Ives’ landmark exhibition on the Casablanca Art School marks the first major UK exploration of Morocco’s postcolonial avant-garde art movement. Supported by The Barakat Trust, the project focuses on sharing the story of this pivotal period with local, national, and international audiences.
The exhibition highlights the school’s radical approach to blending Moroccan artistic traditions with modernist practices, breaking with Western academic conventions. The associated public programme includes a Late at Tate event, workshops, family activities, and a specially produced video introducing the Casablanca Art School to global online audiences.
With a strong focus on accessibility and youth engagement, this initiative brings fresh attention to a crucial chapter in Islamic and North African art history, while creating new pathways for audiences to connect with Islamic art and its modern legacies.
