This month’s expert is Dr Sami De Giosa. Sami is currently a visiting assistant professor at the College of Fine Arts and Design, University of Sharjah. He was previously a Research Fellow at SOAS University of London in the department of Cultures and Languages and also at the University of Oxford. He has curated exhibitions on Islamic art around the world including Hajj: Memories of a Journey Exhibition at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi in 2017-2018 and worked on some of the most important museums in the Middle East.
Sami finished his PhD in art history at SOAS on the revival of architecture and arts in Cairo during the late 15th century, his publications include, among others, topics on Islamic tiles during the Mamluk period and and upcoming co-edited book on the artistic exchanges between Islam and Christianity in the Mediterranean during the Medieval period
His subject specialisms are the Holy City of Madinah, the arts of the Mamluk period, museums and museography in the Arab world.
