Learn to paint like the Persians.

If humankind is the measure of all things, then the face is the measure of a miniature. Students in this class will be guided with the meditative concentrated energy it takes to paint the epitome of miniature painting – the human face. Portraiture is also figuration, so students will also study the swishing drapery of the robes and long, languid lines of clothing – drawing with a brush.

During the class, students will break down the subject to the minutest level and inspect every last detail – miniature painting is, after all, all about the detail. Hone your skills and dive deeply into the minutiae of miniature faces, ie. the quirks of a nose, the many lines that make-up hair, beards, etc. A single subtle shift of a line can make a young nose old, or a quizzical eye angry. These nuances are subtle and they take time.
