In 2011 the Barakat Trust gave a grant to Marwah Dabaieh, a doctoral student at the University of Lund. She studied within the faculty of Architecture and Built Environment, in the division of architectural conservation and restoration. Her project involved research into the conservation of the desert vernacular in Egypt, with particular focus on the town of Balat in the western desert of Egypt.
The aim of her research was two-fold. Firstly she wanted to create documentation and a site measurement using Faro laser scanning Photons for three buildings. Laser scanning Photons are one of the most advanced ways of of documentation in the field of conservation. Moreover she made manual measurements and documentation of seven buildings.
