Technologies compared. Vitreous and glazed productions in Sicily, peninsular Italy, Ifrīqiya and al-Andalus between the 9th and 11th centuries
Event information
The study day aims to promote a first comparison between the vitreous and glazed clay productions produced in a geographical area that includes the central Mediterranean (Sicily, Ifrīqiya and peninsular Italy) and north-western (al-Andalus). The chronological context taken into consideration (IX-XI century) includes centuries of great political, social and technological transformations of which the glass and glazed ceramic productions are important indicators. Through the typological and archaeometric comparison between these two categories of materials, an articulated framework will begin to be drawn that allows to better evaluate the assimilation and re-elaboration processes of new technologies, areas of influence and exchange networks that affect the areas examined.
