Fatma Dahmani is a Barakat Trust postdoctoral fellow. Her original project was focused solely on the Abbasid painting of the Caliphal Palace of Samarra and the extent to which it is an original piece. After having conducted further research into the broader city more things caught her eye. This included the paintings discovered in other parts of the city such as in Mosques, Bath Houses and Houses. Fatma further seeks to produce a monograph on the whole paintings of the Abbasid city instead of focusing only on those in the palace.
Fatma’s dynamic project only keeps on getting bigger and bigger! Fatma wishes to additionally add 3D reconstructions of the structures where a sufficient understanding of the architecture and location of the paintings is available. As French is her native language this will have to be translated into English although arrangements have already been made.
